Favorite Websites

In the first few months of teaching, the best discovery I made was Scholastic's teacher website. Scholastic's resources opened my eyes to so many technology resources that I could utilize in my classroom. I am on their website at least twice a week. I listed my favorite five below:
  • For virtual field trips around the world (My students' favorite!): http://www.google.com/earth/
    • This website is a virtual globe that is equipped with real satellite images that allow the person navigating to zoom in/out of cities/states/streets.
  • For young readers: http://www.scholastic.com/kids/stacks/
    • This website is set up similarly to a magazine, where the students' eyes can travel easily from section to section. Students can play games regarding the most recent books, watch videos about different authors and current events, and take polls with other students from around the United States on opinion of different genres/authors/etc.
  • For morning work/activities: http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/daily-starter/teacher
    • This website provides a daily language and math morning work. In addition to these two activities, the site provides a fun fact of the day and a teachable moment. I love utilizing these simple activities, and my students look forward to them each day.
  • For researching projects: http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/students/index.html
    • This website provides articles and games for different famous people/important events/social studies categories/etc.
  • For inspiration and classroom ideas/lessons: http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/teaching-ideas
    • This website provides a large amount of resources and lesson plan ideas for teachers to utilize in the classroom. I love this website because it provides examples, frequently asked questions, and answers.
